What to Expect From a Doctor's Visit

Doctor

The information you share is really key to the action that your doctor is going to take.

Whether it's a regular visit or a sick visit, your doctor will need to hear from you. Make sure you have any information that you would like to share with the doctor written down and take it with you. Part of your visit should be time for discussion. You and your doctor and medical staff are a team.

Respect

Doctors should allow time for questions and sharing during the appointment. Doctors should not keep you waiting for long periods of time.

Collaborative Relationship

You, your family, and your healthcare team should respect each others' expertise, share information, build a mutual understanding of goals, and together create a plan for your health.

Active Listening

You should feel confident that your healthcare team has heard and understood your needs, concerns, and goals. In turn, you and your family need to listen and respond to information from your doctors.
